What each QR type encodes
A QR code is just text arranged as a grid of squares. What makes a phone open a browser, join a network or save a contact is the format of that text. MyQRGenerator writes it for you:
| Type | Encoded as | What the phone does |
|---|---|---|
| Website | https://example.com | Opens the link |
| Wi-Fi | WIFI:T:WPA;S:Cafe;P:secret;; | Offers to join the network |
mailto:hi@example.com?subject=… | Opens a pre-filled email | |
| Phone | tel:+919876543210 | Offers to call |
| SMS | SMSTO:+91…:message | Opens a pre-filled text |
https://wa.me/91…?text=… | Opens a chat | |
| vCard | BEGIN:VCARD … END:VCARD | Offers to save the contact |
| Location | Google/Apple Maps link or geo: | Opens a map |
| Event | BEGIN:VEVENT … END:VEVENT | Offers to add to calendar (support varies) |
| UPI | upi://pay?pa=…&pn=…&cu=INR | Opens a UPI app with a payment request |
| Bitcoin | bitcoin:bc1…?amount=… | Opens a wallet |
| Social / App | A profile or store URL | Opens the profile or listing |

Make sure it scans
The preview runs an independent decoder on every change and shows Scan verified when the design reads back exactly. It also warns about the common failure causes — weak contrast, inverted colours, small quiet zones and oversized logos. Read why QR codes fail to scan for the full checklist.
Choosing a download format
- SVG — vector; perfect for designers and print shops.
- PDF — print-ready at an exact physical size (vector for solid colours).
- PNG — the universal choice for documents, slides and the web. Supports transparency.
- JPG / WebP — for systems that require them. JPG has no transparency.
